First I noticed foreign trucks parking up at night blocking the entrance to rest area, usually because there was no where to park and we all know how they love to stop anywhere!, now I see UK trucks doing it.

If there's no room then go somewhere else. You're pushing it if you have that little time left for your break.
Case in point today. Truck blocking entrance because he's getting his burger and coffee even though there was at least two spaces further down.

It's just lazy and ignorant. Stop it.

i agree, there are alot that don't give a toss and dump it anywhere.
but with the digi tacho, when your times up, its up, and based on the on the spot fine culture, what do you do.
i've sometimes been with in 2 mins of an end of shift/driving time when getting into a services or similar, and if its late in the day, chances are your gonna struggle to find a space.

shows how woeful our goverments are/have been in the past at providing adequate parking.

Most of us lot used to plot up on an industrial estate or services if we had a couple of hours to kill, waiting for book in times for reloads or just hanging about to try and find work. Although there has been a 2 hour rule at services for ages it never used to be enforced, even petrol stations have started playing that game. Theres also a much higher chance of getting a ticket sitting on an industrial estate than there used to be, so now anything with a burger van in it will have a serious lack of available spaces.

To be fair to the drivers, it's not like there's an abundance of places to stop/rest "properly" these days! All the truck parks I know of have either been sold off (for housing) or have NIMBY idiots trying to close them down...

When i head for Dover it usually takes me about 6.5 hours, So i would stop for a break at 3 to 3.5 hours. This give me an hour+ to find decent parking.
However, In the holiday season with coaches and caravans all over the place i've ended up running over my hours due to lack of parking.
If you think parking in the UK is a problem, Then have a look at Germany, and Luxembourg. After 5pm you've no chance.

Our local office / mixed estate has had a rapid growth in overnight truck parking. Nothing for years then, within 4 months, full every night. Is there as inside-guide to these places ? smile

Don't really mind except when some non-UK rig blocks the narrow road stopping early morning deliveries and making bends blind. Quite a few near misses.

I think there was some issue about "ladies" frequenting the area for a bit but that seems to have dropped off.

think alot of the times with the foreign trucks, it may because of their wages. recently read in a truck mag that some turkish drivers, (at one of their best paying firms) were getting paid 550 euros a month. guess it could be similar for alot of the eastern european boys, so if they are in the uk they won't want to lay out 15-20 quid a night on truck parking. also why most of their trailer lockers are fully kitted out with cooking facilities and the like. plus many of the dutch, german, etc registered trucks are now driven by more and more eastern european drivers.

we are ok, anything we lay out to park the wagons is covered by the firm, so i'll always try and get to a truckstop if on the road between gigs.
