Are you class 1 qualified ?

If you are, a C2 6 wheel should be a breeze.

If not then being sent out in a large truck like that for 1st week is fairly

intimidating especially if sent into that London or similar smile

No only got my class 2 licence, and ive mainly been on motorways alot hence the miles, but leeds was a pain and hull, as my instructor told me anyone can pass the test given the right training and doing whats asked of you for your time on test.

Once you ve passed and your out on your own then you learn to drive.

I used to drive 7.5 ton recovery trucks for a few years but stopped a while back. Just started a bit of agency stuff and the first job was a 7.5t removals lorry that frankly dwarfed what I used to drive.

That was fun! Needless to say, I took it very carefully! Enjoying it atm, getting plenty of experience on all sorts of wagons. Had my first damaged tacho disc yesterday so also had my first time recording a manual entry.

All good fun.

When i passed my C2 in 2002 ,the first truck i was given was a 12T so not a huge leap

from the 7.5.After 3 years we needed more weight so got given a 18T.

Left that job in 2006 and went back to a 12T i drive now.

But we also have a 26T 6 wheeler which i drive VERY occasionally and it still intimidates

me as it is just SO big.<yes i should MTFU >

Been over that fully loaded, all I can say is thank Christ for the scania retarder, without it, it would have been very unpleasant

Without a doubt an eight wheeler is the most difficult HGV to drive. Twin steer vehicles are inherently safer though.

It could be worse - you could be out on your own in a tarmac tipper, with quarry driving, tarmac plant loading, sheets and back doors, site driving and paving machine tipping all to contend with, all on top of driving the the thing and finding your way!

Its nothing like Hell Drivers, but tarmac drivers certainly earn their money.
