Bit of background first. I've got 10 years experience of driving 7.5t recovery trucks. As such, in the way we operated, they always fell outside the scope of tachos.

Now I've just started a bit of agency work. I know the basics regarding hours and breaks etc. I'm waiting on a digi card atm but have been offered some analogue tacho work for a couple of days next week.

I know I have to keep the records for 28 days. The days offered are Tuesday and Thursday. Do I make a blank tacho for the days I'm not working within that week? Obviously if they call me in to do a van job, I have to record that as other work within the weeks worth of tachos.

For days that you don't work there is no need to record anything, it's a rest period,

Recording time on a buggy manually on a chart, never ever done that, and I'm fairly certain 99% of drivers are the same

Well in the 12 years I have been driving I haven't done it and I'm not about to start pratting about with a manual card to show a couple of hours on a buggy, and I'm 99% certain 99% of hauliers have the same view as myself, as most use the buggy to keep drivers off card for a day or two

Some people don't even know how to fill an analogue tachograph chart in, let alone enter a manual entry, I think this is a more pressing matter to be fair.

That is why the law was made - to stop hauliers doing this type of thing
But that is no good if the drivers have not got the guts to stick to the rules

Nothing to do with guts, if I don't want to do anything I don't do it, never have and never will, everything I do is at my own discretion.

However if I decide to take a day off work through the week as I need the time off, or my lorry is in the garage etc, I don't get paid, or I use a days holidays, instead I choose to go to work, kick stones, nip out in the buggy and prat about for a day.

Recording buggy work without tachographs fitted will never work despite VOSAs best intentions to find it as yet ANOTHER way to screw the drivers.

One thing, if you're ste at sums leave the mileage done blank, there's no legal requirement to do the subtraction but it's an offence if it's wrong.

Try going to a truckers site like trucknetuk or truckersowrld and see what reaction you get from loads of other drivers to that

Im with the 99%. I go to work to earn money, not stand around scratching my arse with excuses why I cant do stuff. Havent had a tug in a van whilst holding a digi card yet though, so I dont know what the outcome of that would be, very little I would guess. If using paper frizbees I wouldnt think twice about jumping in a van. Scribble on a chart before you leave if youre paranoid and rip it up when you get back.

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one on here that speaks common sense, we do it to earn money and if jumping in a buggy means we can continue to earn money I'm sure that same 99% would do it
