Anyone know much about LEZ?
Discussion
Been trying to better understand the whole thing, and looking at getting myself a LWB Sprinter or Transit shortly. As I understand it, any van 2002 on is currently ok (excepting some 'early adopters') but what I don't want to do is buy a compliant vehicle and then find out it works on a rolling scale and I can't go in the city after a year or so. Anyone know where they are going with it?
I think with anything larger than 3.5t, they now have gone to Euro 4 from 3.
Diesel vans (over caddy size) now have to be Euro 3. Expect it to move to Euro 4 in a few years, while the bigger stuff goes to 5.
It all depends on how long you want to keep the van. I bought a Euro3 spec 3.5t for now as I expect it to be knackered before the rules update.

As usual the rules are clear as mud, though the TFL website does try and make some sense of it.
The biggest piece of nonsense is that my Euro 3 engined tractor unit passes the LEZ test as it was registered after 1st October 2006. So it would appear the registration date of the vehicle is a big factor rather than the Euro rating of the engine, makes it all seem rather pointless.
