Yes I had a go in the 2551 Giga Space demo we had on trial for a week, and I'm VERY impressed, this is a statement coming from someone who turned down a brand new mega space in 2008 for a 4 year old Scania Highline, as I didn't like the previous Actros
Driving position is much improved, steering wheel has more adjustability (old model was poor in this respect) automatic gearbox is quick and reacts very well to small inputs with good clutch control, cab is far better inside than the old model too, better laid out, but saying that the old Mega Space was a great truck once parked up, the new model has only improved on this, some of the options available look quite nice, build quality inside is a HUGE improvement
Main gripes, pusher axle standard again on 6x2 layout, preferred choice is a tag axle and unsure if this will be available, mirrors are still nowhere near as good as a Scania R series, n/s creates quite a blind spot, step to get onto catwalks is still a silly pull down affair rather than being built into the fuel tank, lockers are too high up to be able to reach things right at the back unless you are 7ft tall
All in all I liked it, I'd certainly choose one over a 105 Superspace, however It would still play 2nd fiddle to a Topline Scania for me.

Had a look round the 3-4 Mercedes bought along to Truckfest at Peterborough a few weeks ago. Its a mightily impressive truck, a big improvement on the old model in so many ways IMO.
I love the new design and the cabs look great too (I didn't get the chance to have a seat in one at Truckfest, but leaning in i could sense the overall quality and the sheer size of the Gigaspace cab in particular!) must be a hell of truck to live in a few nights away a week in terms of comfort and cab practicality.
Have been seeing increasing numbers on the road including one or two UK spec units just recently too -

I do like the look of the cab but I think they look horrible if they arent colour coded, they just look unfinshed. Has anyone driven one yet? I hated the auto box on the old one we had and the non steer lift axle used to be a nightmare with some of the places that we have to squeeze into.. oh and the mirrors were crap. Infact the new ones got to be an improvement, Id forgotten how much I hated the old one

What used to wind me up with our old Axors was the mirrors... Nice clean mirrors and as soon as you wanted to use the windscreen wash your mirror was covered in dirty water which drys and leves them full of crap again.
The funny thing is my Merc Sprinter has almost exactly the same problem. I think someone in the "wing mirror department" isn't paying attention .philmots said:

I think with an Axor dirty mirrors are somewhere at the bottom of the fault list!Fun Bus said:
I saw a UK Actros in service today - not a tractor unit but a rigid?! Probably a modified tractor unit. Was a really smart grey and silver colour scheme.
Saw a white tractor on trade plates on the M42 the other day too.
The rigid could have been the front part of a wagon and drag unit perhaps? Saw a white tractor on trade plates on the M42 the other day too.
Had a quick play with one today, we have it on demo and I cant take it out as I need a blower for the tanks. They are going to look horrid inside after a few months, what is with all of the cheap silvery plastic stuff? There were too many things in there that needed a ripspeed sticker on them, blue led lights in the roof? Whats with the big plastic key that you have to push into a slot and then a normal key hanging off of it for the fuel cap, they really have tried to make it into the inside of a clk, its a work vehicle ffs. Oh and it had the usual crap couple of inches of foam as a bed too
Apparently it is a better drive than the old ones we had, and I still do like the looks of the outside if they arent the poverty spec ones.
Awaiting a nose around a new volvo, if they have tried the silly gimmics like merc I am going to be depressed.
