i had a run last night, a regular we do from basildon to merthyr tydfil, trailer swap and back. to be honest, a fair nights work on its own. but all went belly up last night. i had some sort of allergic reaction, and ended up in hospital for a few hours, finally got home tonight. anyone else, ever not made it home?

About 4 years ago I had some viral stomach thingy, had to go to a drop in center, spent 2 days in my bunk, boss wanted to pick me up but with a toddler and baby in the house I didn't want to take it home, highlights apart from the 8 hours straight puking was getting out the truck for a pee and stting myself lol, doctor was gonna admit me to hospital because I hadn't had a wee in 24 hours, managed to go whilst seeing him, wasn't fun
I was just thinking about this last night as ive been ill with a stomach bug. It must be torture being stuck away with no facilities. Many years ago my father had a problem with his intestine and was in too much pain to drive the truck so hitch hiked home! Why he didn't drive to a nearby hospital I have no clue? Ended up having an emergency op, silly old sod!

yuk, not nice.i set off from merthyr, for the drive back to basildon, i felt offish at merthyr and by the time i'd got back to the m4, it had just got worse, was covered in a rash, dizzy etc, knew i'd never make it back. thing is what do you do? i didn't know where a doctors would be, the fact that it was midnight wouldn't have helped, where would i stick the lorry, blah, blah, blah!
i phoned 999, my only option, but was now feeling really rough, they were brilliant, and were with me in 4 minutes, 5 minutes later i was in the hospital, and getting sorted, so top marks to the n.h.s.
the ambulance guy, and the team in a&e were great, especially beings it was mobbed with the normal friday night drunks. i think i got fast tracked

Yeah that must of been a nightmare thinking of what to do? What happened with your truck?? i didn't know what to do at first, didn't really want to do the 999 thing, but had no choice as i knew i wouldn't be ok untill i had some kind of treatment. luckily for me, i knew there was a wide load lay-by at j32 of the m4, so got the lorry in there. when the paramedic car turned up, he said he'd take me to cardiff hospital for treatment, and then he got onto his control to let the police know why my truck was there.
by the time i got back to it, i knew i didn't have enough hours left, even on a 15 to get back to the yard, so made it to membury and had a 9 hour break there. then ran home saturday afternoon to yard.
top marks to all the hospital staff, they were great. i see alot of hospitals at mo as my dad is really ill, and never ceases to amaze me, with all they have to do and put up with, 99% of them are always happy, smiley, polite and helpful.

when i was about 24 i loaded for south wales and left lorry in the yard , at the time i was working out of shorpe on a percentage wage which paid really good , and south wales was one of the best paying runs we did, i didnt have enough time to run with it or i would of done , ( only had 12.5 hrs spreadover then )
anyway went home and had tea , went to bed planning on being up about 3 set off at 4 , about 1 i woke up and was really really sick , like projectile vomiting ,my missus got up with me and was fussing round talking about doctors and hospitals , being typical male i remember saying dont be daft ill be ok and went back to bed but the pain in my stomach just kept worse , unknown to me my missus rang for an ambulance and next thing i remember is being in hospital and some one saying sign this please we re going to operate .
my appendix had burst and if they had left me another couple of hours i would of been dead due to the blood poisoning.
i have thought that if i had enough time that day i would of set off and been in my cab that night ,and ignored it best i could and probably died

Never been ill as such, but did once have godawful toothache, was tipping at Tilbury, it'd been getting worse for a couple of days, hadn't had much sleep, climbed the fence cos i saw a dentists on the street opposite, only to find they wouldn't take me till after 4pm(it's about 10:30), climbed back in, headed for Dover, got to Ashford, couldn't take it any more, i'm stopped in a bus stop,(this was way before satnav etc) trying to find a dentist, saw a police car coming, just stepped out in front of him with my hand up, the copper was brand new, he nipped into town but came back telling me they were all shut but he'd found out that Canterbury hospital had an emergency dentist.
Waaay over hours by then i was past caring, dumped the wagon in an out the way corner of the hospital car park, nipped in and got my tooth fixed, came back out, got in the bunk, and slept for 13hrs.
