Thanks for the info. Considering doing my LGV as I've just been made redundant - Happy New Year, and my dad and uncle were both drivers. Spend a lot of time loading and unloading tippers, tankers, and hydrogen/co2 trucks - half the drivers say its rubbish nowadays and half say its unbeatable.
Yeah, theres loads of rubbish work out there and most companies have good and bad contracts, the trick is to find somewhere that you like the people and then wriggle your way onto their good work. I'm glad my class 1 cost me £300ish all in, I wouldn't bother nowadays as I can think of much better ways of starting a career with £3k.

Get yourself a decent job (class 1 or 2) and its no hassle and well worth doing.
Finding a decent job is the hard bit, though. I dropped on.
i'd agree with this. i think you've got to really want to do it these days.Finding a decent job is the hard bit, though. I dropped on.
i've been at it now for 20 years, and it took me 14 years to find the "right" job. its a cracking little number, and the pay isn't half bad. some of what i did up till then though, well.....
HUMPER, showing your age out of interest when was this. i can't for the life of me remember how much i payed for mine.

1987....I remember cos £200 was all the cash i had, it was £75 a day + £60 for the test, i had to borrow the extra tenner.
frightening to think that these days it could cost you nigh on 3 grand
