Post up pics of your favourite older Yank or Brit / European Trucks

I'll start with a pic of my Dads old custom Atkinson Borderer

Sorry for the quality but its the only picture left of it that we have, taken in Yorkshire at a truck show in the late Seventies

This was my grandfathers pride and joy,it belonged to the local council and was a special build of some sort.I was too young at the time to know facts and figures but i remember the noise very very well.

I met a guy that also drove council lorries a few years ago through work and he said you would hear this thing coming and just moved out of the way,was pointless trying to stay in front of him biggrin

Great looking trucks the early Scania, liking the DAF too, fond memories of being about 5 years old looking through T+D magazine asking my Dad if he could get one next smile

Yes it was a constructor, there was something to do with it having a bigger engine than it should or something along those lines. There were 2 of them, one was in Caithness and this one was Sutherland.

Yes, UTU 810M. Dad sold it to a fairground operator and I think it's still in service but as a six wheeler.

ETA - After googling the reg the other day I found this. Dad has commented on the pic after I mailed it to him.

A quick query for any vintage beards. I saw an old breakdown/heavy recovery truck last year, not working and I reckon it must have been at a show somewhere.

It was massive, looked a bit like a Scammell but it wasn't I don't think. Similar big bonnet design but the grill was massive and the full width of the front. Just out of idle curiousity could anybody enlighten me?

Favourites include this, my dad's old F86 (and subsequent Volvo F7's). Spent all my school hols in these.

Ran one of these for a while too, I can still hear that air cooled engine to this day...

Wow a Magirus Deutz. Not the most common sight over here. There used to be an advert in T&D most months in the 80's for those iirc ?

No, there weren't many around. That's why I liked it. Unfortunately got written off by a dumb fitter. Subsequent trucks just had no character in comparison.

The Mighty Antar! I absolutely love these. smile

Here are a few pictures taken back in around 1992/3 with me as a young boy having a ride in one at the Enfield Pageant Of Motoring :

Waving from the passenger window :

According to the owner (John Preswood), the ballast box was added by him to give it more traction as on the gear changes it would (briefly) spin the wheels and hop. I also recall him saying that it did 2MPG - yes, two miles per gallon ! And that when he took it somewhere, because of it's shear size (10ft high & 10.6ft wide) he had to notify the police at least a day before hand. He also said that the Mighty Antar could pull 100 tonnes up a 1-in-6 hill without breaking too much of a sweat. The unit in this picture was weighed at 32 tonnes :

You get an idea of the size of the thing when you see it parked in front of the double decker buses like this. In this picture the truck to the right is John Preswood's other chariot - a Scammell Constructor with a Scammell Crusader cab fitted by himself. This was his working vehicle and it had a giant of a towing crane on the back.
