Great to see this section of the forum becoming a reality. Why don't we share what we do and who for (if you're comfortable disclosing) in the world of lorryism?

I'm a consultant who advises in best methods of practice in manual/automated planning and fleet utilisation.

Before this I've held planning roles with DHL, Tesco and a coupe of smaller organisations one of which was a car transport operation, the other liquid tankers. Have also turned my hand to driving puddle jumpers (7.5t) on agency when 'between jobs'. Have been in the industry 10 years.

Over to you...

Self employed, family haulage firm that has been running for almost 40 years, Father started it I am carrying it on.

Small fleet of Seddon Atkinsons, an Artic, two rigids, and a 7.5 tonner Iveco badged as a Seddon Atkinson, a Transit luton and a Nissan Cabstar tipper. Also got a car trailer and a ford Ranger general hack !

Lots of vehicles for three drivers but we are in West cornwall so need to be able to do anything at the drop of a hat, no bulk fluids or livestock.

Mainly specialise in Shipping containers to buy/sell/rent.

I drive for a medium sized, family owned, general haulage firm running artics to Transits. As part of the business, we sub contract drivers (me) to another company and transport a mobile workshop to race circuits and test centres throughout Europe but mainly the Nurburgring and the IDIADA centre in Barcelona.
On UK haulage, I only work a two day week.(I am supposed to be retired after all).

I work for ASDA out of the Didcot depot through an agency (Haul-It Nationwide)

Most of the trailers are singles but have a fair few double deckers.

Very easy work and have a new fleet of Volvo 450 FM's.

Few pics of the DD.

Around six or seven years ago now, I was working for a courier company who specialised in credit cards, mainly driving 7.5 tonners or Renault vans.

The ex and I split up, sold our house and both got seven grand in our sky rocket.

I decided to put myself through the Class 2 test. Passed first time. Walked into a local driving agency about a week later and said "What have you got?"

They offered "Temp To Perm" at Wickes.

Started there and have been there ever since.

A couple of years ago, they advertised for "Relief Class 1 Drivers", offering to pay for the Class 1 licence. I applied for the job, got it and got through my test.

Since then, I've been mostly driving the artics and mostly loving it.

Second year Aerospace Engineering undergraduate (aka forced insomniac) at the University of Bristol. I'm guaranteed to get it up!

Also, Committee Chairman in charge of organising a steam rally in Bristol, from scratch, by September. I can fully see myself having a nervous breakdown at this one

Well, I have a clean HGV 1, digi tacho, IPAF powered access tickets from my days on rigids moving scissor lifts and cherry pickers.

I'm handy with the spanners!
Can drive JCB loadall however have no ticket.

Have experience dealing with horses as I used to work as a stable lad when I was younger if this helps! biggrin

I work round the corner from ALE heavy lift, and as long as I can remember heavy haulage has fascinated me ever since my dad took me to Teesdock to watch Economove shift a huge drier vesel thingy for a plant he worked for on Wilton.

This initially spurred me to put myself thru HGV 2 then Class 1!

Sadly the game seems pretty much sewn up by the older hands!
