I must admit, I hate using spring compressors. I do have a pair that wrap around coils a little but just screw type thread, rather than hydraulic. I don't love using them! I've got some top mounts to change in the coming days and I'm wondering about getting a hydraulic compressor instead. Does anyone have a recommendation? I don't want to spend the earth as it's the sort of thing that might get used once every couple of years. But at the same time I don't want something unsafe.

I've never used or even seen a hydraulic spring compressor, but I'd have thought a screw type compressor would be safer - you'll never strip the thread on a screw compressor, but hydraulics can and will eventually fail.

I have a few sets including these, various cheaper sets exist and they all do a similar thing but i quite like them if you can get them on the coils.
I would probably buy a floor standing unit if I were doing more but its just not worth it.
