I have a low level entry Draper Evolution trolley jack (smashing bit of kit albeit as heavy as a neutron star) and I frequently use it on a tarmac drive. However said tarmac is starting to become buggered by the jack - does anybody use a 'pad' or anything suitable for the trolley jack to operate on? Is a 3ton rated jack lifting a heavy car......

We've got a gravel drive so I just throw down a piece of 18mm ply for the jack to run on, works fine and easily\cheaply replaced if it gets too knackered

Same. Half an 8' x 4' sheet for me, with a couple of squares for axle stands.

Needs to be bigger than the jack itself to allow the jack to roll, as well as to give a bit of positioning room.

Never had any issues doing that, but if I need to do anything requiring me to actually get under the car then I rent a bay with a ramp for a few hours (see sticky).

Roughly 2ft x 3ft sheet of 3mm steel for me, same principle.

Same here. 18mm marine ply with a rubber puck on the jack. Just leave enough room for the jack to move along.

My dad always used to nag me to put the jack on his piece of ply!
Does not need to be too thick really, it does not crush.

Even on a solid surface like block paving etc, the wheels on the jack move easier on a smooth surface like ply/steel/etc so I use one most of the time, unless it is a quick job requiring only a small lift.
