Seems my local authority don’t take it? That’s handy

Environmentally unsound,

I keep any used oil / coolant jugs and fill them with effluent; Sharpie 'NOPE' on them so I remember they're not for drinking, and leave them in the garden tucked away until there's a skip or general waste collection arranged.

Or there's the traditional method...

There is no method of correctly disposing of coolant. Most recommendations focus on pouring it down a toilet. How good is that?

You should have bought an old Ford. They usually automatically dispose of it all over the road for you!

Just pour it down the sink and run the tap for a bit afterwards.

Tip it down the drain in your road outside your house at midnight, no one will notice.

(Only Joking)

Flush it down your toilet, there's worse things been down there.

You could ask your local garage but if they won't, and your local authority won't, then your only option is to dispose 'by any means available'.

In the past I’ve mixed it with my old engine oil that I take to the dump. I know that the oil company will clean and separate the oil from contaminants including rain water etc so they presumably have the ability to deal with it.

Nearly filled a small Fanta bottle with diesel from the old filter, can see floaters so it's not going back in the tank. I don't have a tea strainer. But now thinking about it, I could strain through an old sock or some pants...sorry, off topic. Where do garage's old coolant go? Apart from all over the floor..
Collection service?

Generally my method also, just don't let the tip gadgie see the coolant at the end of the decanting process.

At my local tip they tell you to put it into the oil dump.

I made a ‘complaint’ online - my complaint to the local authority is that it’s not possible to ask a question on their, as expected, recycling (can’t call it a dump drunk) useless information pages (there is no method of contacting them whatsoever).

A human being has at least responded and asked what my question is, so I have relayed the where to dispose of coolant etc query.

So I will let you know if / what they eventually come back with. I suspect they will have an inability to answer as I doubt they will state to mix it in the oil storage tank, and there is no other facility on site that I’ve seen.

I just add it to my waste oil and take it to the dump and pour it into the oil container. No one watches so no one knows.
