Battery Analyzer for small 12V batteries
Discussion
I have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0725GVGTG which works fine for car batteries but am looking for something similar for “small” 12v lead acid batteries such as those used for alarm system backup batteries or mobility scooters.
That's hard to do for the small batteries because you need to know their designed discharge characteristics. For an automotive battery they are essentially measuring the delivered cranking amps because this is the most important characteristic for automotive use. Batteries for alarms and mobility scooters and so on are not designed for peak discharge so this is a less useful health indicator. It would probably be more useful to measure their charge capacity, which would need a completely different type of tester.
Most RC model battery chargers will charge and discharge many types of battery including lead acid.
You can set the discharge current and the end voltage and they will tell you the capacity.
Better ones will allow you set a number of cycles and record the ah in and out.
But they don't put much load on the battery (unless you spend £££'s)
