Discussion
Hi all hope you are all good! Im in the middle of a gearbox swap on my mk4 golf gttdi.. i dropped the subframe so i could use my transmission jack dont know how the units on youtube bench press the boxes!
Car has a solid flywheel so im guessing i can re use that.. Is the clutch/pressure plate any good though? My first time doing one.. your advice is always valued! Thanks lads

Short answer: Yes, probably
Long answer: Just change it while you have it apart, it’s a few hundred quid you would be glad you spent/be annoyed you didn’t spend it it fails in 6 months.

I changed a box on a 106 gti years ago with a mate. A week later we had the box back out putting a clutch init in the snow… it wasn’t fun.
I have noticed how much spares have increased in cost in the past two years . That and the abundance of hopeless cheap options ,Drivetec as an example from GSF.
Running some low cost vehicles myself I often make the comparison in my head of the value of the parts against that of the vehicle.

Don't know if either of these are the right one for you.

From memory those should have dual mass flywheel on them, and has been converted to a solid flywheel, it might be worth checking that it had a mass damper on the belt end of the crank, its an important thing that is often over looked when removing a dual mass flywheel, as with a solid flywheel there is nothing to absorb vibrations.
