Would a burst tyre cause so much damage that the bumper would rip off, and the rad is hanging down, indicator is also hanging off. I do have pictures but unable to post them. I was not there when the incident happened but this is the story I am being told.

Why don't you start by giving us the full story rather than ask a question that needs MUCH more information.

Otherwise.

Can it?

Yes it can.

End of post.

Severely unlikely with a car tyre at 30-40psi

Puncture caused an accident not accident caused a puncture

If it let go at 70mph it’s entirely possible.

More so if the internal structure was weakened by prolonged running on low pressure before.

If it’s popped hitting a curb at parking speed, no chance of any damage.

A burst tyre can produce sharp fragments of rubber and metal, which might damage nearby components, but it is unlikely to rip off a bumper or dislodge a radiator on its own.

If the vehicle was travelling at high speed when the tyre burst, the sudden loss of control could lead to an impact with an object or the road, causing substantial damage to the bumper, radiator, and indicator. The description suggests the vehicle may have hit something (e.g., a kerb, barrier, or debris) after the tyre burst, which could explain the additional damage.

Without seeing the pictures or knowing more details, it is difficult to give a definitive assessment.

I would love to be able to give a full story but i don't believe this "friend" isn't telling me the full story. I'm not an expert on cars and am probably a bit naive to what can/can't happen. Used to go to my dad for things like this before he passed so now I'm just kind of lost and looking for advice. My friend was taking my car to his garage to give it a service and oil change. The car was going along housing estates so not high speed, max of 30 however where i live majority of roads are 20mph. He claims that the tyre has burst and apparently caused the bumper to rip off completely. When he has then sent me pictures the car has no bumper, no badge, the indicator is hanging off. When zooming on the pics the rad is hanging down as well and I am droving myself crazy trying to figure it out. I wish i could upload pictures to show you all because i feel like the damge caused is far more than a "burst tyre" prior to this i thought my car we quite good, and well made. Is there anyway i can upload pictures?

It won't allow me to post a link for 14 days due to being a new member. I couldn't even reply to this properly as it quoted a link. I have uploaded the pictures and have the links when i can get them on

When you say he was taking the car to his garage do you mean that he is a friend who is a professional mechanic running a commercial garage or a friend
taking it home to do a service as a favour?

This could have important implications in terms of liability and also insurance.

The damage you've described suggests either an accident or a much higher speed blowout.

As others have said & as I eluded to it seems VERY unlikely that a 20/30 blow out would do that, however a "watch this" moment causing a kerb/bollard strike would.

You need to let us see pics, and especially you need to check what the tyre/wheel looks like as unless the tyre carcass is completely destroyed & in tatters it didn't happen like you described.

Upload pics/video as mentioned above & just type in the link address without making it a link, we can then copy that into www address box.
