Countax C80 mower

I have a Countax C80 mower and have had a problem with a fractured rear deck mount arm. Removing the arm to repair or replace seems to be quite difficult because the springs that counter the weight of the 48 inch deck are under quite a lot of tension and there does not seem to be a way to safely detension them....does anyone have any experience of how to do this please?

I’ve got an older Westwood but very similar deck I think. If you drop the deck to the lowest position and then detention/remove the drive belt everything should then “relax” sufficiently.
