2012 petrol Ford Fiesta: The petrol can I’m trying to fill the Fiesta up with seems to have the correct size neck and opens the cap less fuel filler fine. But it seems no matter how slowly I pour the petrol pisses out everywhere instead of going in the tank. I know some cars have an adapter for filling cars but I can’t find one for this car.
What am I doing wrong? Ty

There should be a small funnel like adaptor in the boot, if it's not with the tools it may have been taken out prior to your ownership.

Thanks. Had the car from new and never seen it (but have seen them in other cars). There is no place for it in the polystyrene thingy that holds all the tools in the boot so no idea where it is or if there ever was one!

Basically I have (had) about 5 litres of fuel in a can for the mower and thought I'd put it in the car rather than let it go "off" over the winter. Now 50% of it is on the driveway and the other half still in the can but not worth buying that tool to recover it!

That said the tool looks a bit like a she-pee thingy might borrow the mrs' and see if that does the trick then put it back in her handbag with her fags without her knowing...

If you push the flap that's in the filler tube open with a slim screwdriver or similar, the fuel should pour in without any problem. Obviously you need to take care not to drop the screwdriver into the tube...

The filler thing is normally in the glovebox, small grey funnel.

This. ^^^

I've done this previously, use a wide handled screwdriver to push the flap open, you can rest the handle on the car and then fill.... albeit more slowly as you cannot get the nozzle all of the way in.

The flap opens when I push the fuel can nozzle in. It goes about 2.5" in but still not enough it seems.

Aha you are right. It was in the glovebox. It opens the the flap about 4" whereas the fuel can only opens it 2.5"... length matters it seems.

Thanks all.

Think I'm going to have to try filling each of my cars up from a petrol can as I didn't even know this was a thing!

Is it just a Ford thing or an "all cars since 20xx" thing?

I suspect it's to prevent siphoning and will be in most cars now but don't know that for certain.

Jeez. If I had would I be asking here? Always some ph berk appears.

Wife’s car from new. Glovebox full of stuff. Everything I’ve read said any such device would be in the boot.
