Petrol 06 E-Class running rich
Discussion
Looking for a miracle quick fix (!)
My 2006 S211 Mercedes E280 (petrol V6) has failed its MOT on the emissions test - CO2 marginally too high. It's running too rich and in fact as the tester pointed out, you can smell it's too rich.
It had an intermittent misfire which was a failed coil pack on cylinder three. That has been replaced but has made no difference. I've also tried the obvious things - new air filters, put some Cataclean in, used the old fuel and refilled with decent E5 petrol, did a long higher speed run (although living in central London means it's almost impossible to get an extended high speed run these days).
Anything else to try which I've missed? If not, I'll have to sell as an MOT fail which is a shame because otherwise it runs well, has been supremely reliable, is relatively high spec and doesn't owe me much.
It passed the MOT with no trouble last year.
(I do have three error codes which are: 'constant adjustment of intake camshaft of right cylinder bank in direction 'retarded' P0016'; 'constant adjustment of exhaust camshaft of right cylinder bank in direction 'retarded' P0017'; and 'diagnosis of tumble flat intake manifold open circuit of sensor lines / tumble flap shafts stick in the non actuated position P2006'. I know someone will say any/all of these could cause the mixture to be out, and I did take it to a Merc specialist to think about best way to go but he wasn't convinced any was relevant and tackling them will cost more than the car will ever be worth.)

Whether they are actually the cause of the issue is not really relevant.
They all have the POTENTIAL to cause emissions issues & as such MUST be sorted out before you stand a chance of seeing if.....
a. They are YOUR issue cause.
b. You even have another issue at all.
On top of that the first 2 things I would be looking at or whether you have a metered air intake leak or any exhaust air leaks as both could also be major emissions fail points.
