Hi, could anyone help with advice about a problem with the turbo on my Kia Sorento.

A few weeks ago I had a flashing EML with the code P0299 for underboost. I removed the boost pressure sensor which was very coked up, cleaned it up, cleared the codes, and the car drove fine with no codes returning, however on acceleration I have grey/black smoke, not a huge amount but enough.

Next I removed the intake pipework with the intention of cleaning the turbo with Winns turbo cleaner, it looked quite nasty inside and the vanes were a bit sticky so I gave it a careful clean without the engine running which got them freed off nicely. I didn't notice any excessive play in the turbo so then proceeded to follow the instructions on cleaning the turbo with the engine running. Initially this was going well but I noticed oil building up in the turbo so stopped the process as there's obviously a problem somewhere.

I have a picture of the compressor side of the turbo but as a new member I can't post links for the first 14 days and I don't think there's another way of adding images.

I'm wondering, is it likely the turbo has had it or more likely there's some other issue. Other than the smoke on acceleration, the car drives well with no lack of power or strange noises from the turbo.

Any thoughts/advice very gratefully received
