Towing electrics behind a hatch
Discussion
I'm possibly going to be fitting a towbar to my car soon.
The towbar itself is a nice sleek removable affair, but weirdly no-one makes a vehicle specific towing electrics kit. I've checked all the usual towing companies, the dealers, even looking at overseas suppliers. So, I need to make it from generic parts with scotchloks to the harness.
The car has a rear under tray which meets the bumper, so a standard flip-up mount won't work. The removable towbar itself requires a small slot to be cut, but if I oversize it for an electric socket it will look rubbish.
As the cable is really too thick to dangle out of the boot, the solution I'm pondering is to make a removable hatch/cover on the rear tray, with the 13 pin connector affixed in the space above the tray. When I need to plug in I would remove the cover and plug in with a short extension if required.
Has anyone tried such an approach? Any chance I can see your handiwork for inspiration?
