Code Reader / Resetter - Merc W177 A180d
Discussion
Mrs has a 2019 A180d with 38k, full history and serviced 3 months back.
Engine light has come on. Don't know how long it's been on, could be a few days as there are no accompanying warning messages even on startup.
She was on reserve fuel last time for 3 miles before she filled up.
The car is running fine, no noises, loss of performance, temps fine and nothing under the bonnet looking out of place and no leaking on the driveway.
I've had a go in it this morning and it drove fine but the light remains.
Any recommendations on a cheapish code reader from Amazon that can both read and reset things, see if it pops up again and get an idea of what might be playing up before we go near a garage?

After a ton of research, I just bought a :
Launch 2024 crp123 v2.0 Plus
Which gives ALL Systems, Multi car and three resets for about £120. It doesn't give bi-directional (which let's you operate windows and things on the canbus from the device) which is useful for trouble shooting.
There are about 6 different versions of the crp123 - all slightly different.
This works on my Mercedes just fine.
A basic Bluetooth device off Amazon, linked to a £2.99 (ish) app on your phone (I have Torque) will give you core systems, and may be all you need - but won't give you All systems on the Merc, you need a "Benz" specific one, or an 'All Car' one. I went the 'All Car' route as I have Mazdas and a Ford on the drive as well.
If I was happy with a Benz specific reader, the iCarsoft MB v3 would probably have been my choice.
Start price for Benz All Systems seems to be about £80. But be aware many also require a subscription model that didn't make sense for me.
If I wanted anything much better, the price jumps to about £400, and beyond that you can get into the £000s for professional gear.
I am happy with mine, but suspect I would be happier with a £400 item, but too hard to justify for me.

Thanks for all the recommendations.
In the End we got a Topdon AL300 I think it is.
Code of P24AF has been displayed. Google suggests a DPF issue or a sensor fault.
The car has been doing short trips recently so I'm thinking it might need taken out and given chance to get up to temp and regen?

Fingers crossed a good run sorts it out. Allow at least 30 minutes for this, to get it up to temperature and then a twenty minute run up the motorway at about half revs (keep it in a lower gear if required). Also start with a full tank of fuel - I don't know about Mercs, but having less than a quarter tank in Fords, or less than a half tank in VWs stops the computer trying to inject fuel to assist the dpf cleanse.

Top tip its bang on half a tank so I'll fire another half in and maybe a fuel additive. Off work today so spending it driving this up and down the Mway. I wouldnt mind if it was my own car with more than twice the bhp! Gassing Station | Home Mechanics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
