I have a 2021 seat tarraco 1.5tsi 7 speed DSG. It has a rattling noise under light acceleration. It goes away when i let go off the accelerator.

Video of the noise here

Anybody have any ideas what it could be please. I am stumped on this one

Thanks

No idea, but I know better than to download dodgy content from dodgy websites.

Use one of the well known video sites if you want to share a video.

I've not clicked on your link but I believe these engines can suffer from a rattle caused by a worn turbo actuator rod.

Sorry never knew wetransfer was dodgy use them all the time. Any suggestion which website i can use so people will actually listen to the noise.

If it was the turbo would it not do that regardless of revs.

Seems to be between 1600-1800rpm after i was testing it today

Maybe turbo regulator arm rattle? It's a bit of a thing on quite a few VW petrol engines.

True. They actually made a clip for some of the 2.0tsi engines to resolve the issue. Not sure if it’s the same for the 1.4

I will get this checked out on tuesday. I take it that i should avoid driving it as much then if its the turbo related

Not an expert but I as far as I know there’s no issue - it just rattles. One fix (this is a common VW Group first response to a customer complaint) is to slather it with grease. Like they did with wife’s Karoq suspension.

Of course it might not be that but your description is the same as the usual description for that issue.

I did just buy the car on wensday. P1ssed if its that tbh. It was fine on the way home. Just next day it started.

I just took it for a drive with gearbox in sports mode. And rattling is very minimal obv as revs hold higher. So will drive it in sports mode until its sorted.

I don’t drive it a lot but it does sound different sometimes. It’s almost ‘rorty’ on occasion. I’ve seen it suggested that can be as it rapidly heats the gpf, but it doesn’t do it every cold start and sometimes it continues for the whole journey.

Some days I can detect a slight juddering, other days it’s completely smooth. I can hear a difference when it’s in 2 cyl mode too.

Cant find anything on the 1.5tsi and the actuatuar rod or wastegate rattle. Seems be all 2.0 and 1.4 although does sound same like my issue.

I am taking car back to dealer on tuesday and will tell them to check these 2 things. I really hope i dont have to reject the car as i looked around for months to find this spec.

When in 2021 was it registered? If it's still in warranty let the dealer deal with it.

I brought it used from seat last week so has warranty. I like to know the issue before taking back to them as they quick to just brush it off and then i can makesure they actually fix the issue and not just band aid it.

You know what stealers are like! Hoping its nothing major. Will keep this updated incase anyody else has this issue

Is it only whilst the car's in motion? Actuator rod rattle is i think most obvious at idle, it's easy to diagnose at idle, just hold the rod by hand (wear appropriate gloves if engine hot!)

No it happens also at idle now too. So its always between 1600-1800 rpm. Regardless of gear or speed.

I tried to also look for the actuator rod but i cant see it so i can give it a wiggle. I think its right at back .

Any idea where it is on the 1.5tsi model.
