Either replace the lid or ignore it. It's a cheap plastic lid just meant to keep debris out

I've had cars with the lid missing and it's not been a problem.

Try pushing dead centre of the circle with your thumbs, rolling outwards to transfer pressure to the circumference.

I certainly hope not, I put hours of thought into this. OK, a few seconds at most - even so. smile

OP, this is a hammer-down type. They're great once you have got the lid in place, but they're a mare to do up.

The way I do it is to get a club hammer, hold the lid in the right location and then give it one good hard thump with the hammer.

If you are worried about damaging anything, put your hand palm-down on top of the lid and use that as a buffer between the hammer and the lid.

If it doesn't work the first time, try again but hit it harder.

JEESUS Christ, do you need walking to water before you drink?

How do you manage to get bread to make a sandwich?

What do you put in it?

Send me your credit card details and your address & I will do it for you!

Some lids are hard to press back on. The above suggestion is likely to work, assuming there are no obvious cracks or splits on the parts. I have had these issues with caps before. I hate these tethered caps, they get in the way when filling and never fit properly - screwed caps were better.
