Evening all,

Im after a new set of spring compressors after my hydraulic set gave up the ghost.
As the job I need them for requires the spring to be compressed quite a lot, I dont think another set of floor standing hydraulic ones would allow enough compression.
I have come across the below type on ebay and was wondering if anyone had any expirience of using a similar set?

Many thanks!

I bought a similar set and has worked ok for me on 2 jobs.
I have some of the standard ones too so most bases covered.
They are quite bulky and won't be suitable for some springs but feel very safe to use.

Back in the day when I used to do a bit of spannering for mates as what would now be called a side hustle, I fitted quite a few new and/or lowered springs.

I always used this type of compressor if there was room to get it on. V soild and secure feeling in use, the regular type of compressor felt pretty sketchy by comparison.

Whatever type you use, be careful, make sure to use the right size and that it is properly located, and carefully unwind the compressor as soon as the spring off and safely out of harms way. There is enough energy stored in a compressed spring to do you a lot of damage if it lets go and you are in the way.

Thanks, will probably give them a try.

Used to be easier in the old days on shocks without rebound damping, spring didn't need to be compressed that much.

Now on the newer stuff, I'm finding that the shock "piston" is pulled back in by the rebound damping, meaning the springs need to be pretty much coilbound.

Last time I had a spring I didn't quite trust my compressors on, I just took the strut down to the local garage for them to swap over for a few quid
