Oil filter snapped
Discussion
Saab 93 petrol
All was going too well it seems.
Drained oil then removed the oil filter from the housing. Done everything else, fuel/air/cabin filter, plugs.
New sump plug on then looked to put new oil filter in. Realised only then the old one must have snapped either already or when taking out. Really struggling to get a grib of the left over part on the housing with pliers, although maybe need finer ones.
Had to leave the car, now in the pub as pi££ed off.
Any advice welcome!
Picture from Google but an idea of issue.

Could it be like this ? http://rialtainfo.com/vw/vw_images/OilFilter-Stem.... Judging by that it's just a location secured by an O ring.
Small long nose mole grips ? Not a clue how accessible, from what you describe it's not easy !

I think so. I think also correct on the o ring as the new filter had one so potentially makes things a little more difficult to remove.Small long nose mole grips ? Not a clue how accessible, from what you describe it's not easy !
I'm more surprised it doesn't seem more common I was either unlucky or a bit meat fisted in removal.
No idea if there is space - but.. take some thin string, make a loop of it, feed the loop through a drinking straw, then feed that loop down and lasoo the remains of the filter?
I'm trying to think of this tool - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-277860-Flexibl...
but instead of four little claws, getting a thin wire/string that you could tie around the shaft.
