For the princely sum of £12.99 this does a decent job. Lives in the boot and no need to worry about batteries.

Why does it need to be decent? Are you planning on using it a lot?
Because nobody in the history of purchasing tyre inflators has purposely gone out of their way to buy a non-decent tyre inflator. Strange response.
I guess my answer to the original question... if it had to be a 'sensible' answer to satisfy chubbyross would be "get any old tyre inflator, it doesn't really matter, they all do the job"... or something like that.
I have this - it cost me £6.27 delivered. It isn't the fastest thing in the world, but easily does the job for just keeping on top of tyre pressures

Well, you don't want one that only works once. Mine gets used probably half a dozen times a year across my cars.I have a Halfords branded one - it's made by Ring. Replaces an earlier unit I bought in 2007 that was starting to get a bit loud and quite hot in use. That one took a hell of a lot of abuse over my earlier ownership of s

I opted for one that I can set a pressure limit, so don't need to pay any real attention when using it. Looks like the slightly refreshed equivalent is about £45 from Halfords, £33 from Ring.

Can’t fault it. Had it about 7 years. Use it little and often to keep pressures right. Only down side is the analogue display so I also have a digital pressure gauge. But it’s cheap, cheerful, small enough to store in a small storage bin, and seems fairly indestructible.

I have one of these and it easily manages to pump the tyres up to the required 45psi that my car requires.

Had one of these for years its still going strong (was abouty £60 when i bought mine), check the airflow @ 150 litres/minute, haven't found anything else that comes near, they also supply ARB inflators but those are seriously expensive.

Uses a decent amount of current hence croc clips direct to battery.
There are similar looking twin cyl jobbies on the bay of E, not that flow rate though, look similar and considerable cheaper.
Very few inflators quote flow rate, obvious why.

Do you have any power tool batteries already?
This is a key question. I bought a Makita cordless tyre inflator, as I already have a couple of Makita LXT batteries that I use with other tools. If you already have some lithium batteries that you use with other power tools, you might as well stick with that brand.
Going cordless is much more convenient than faffing about with plugging it into the 12V socket in the car. Also useful for inflating paddling pools, footballs etc in the garden.

Got one of these last week as well as a "spare". At this price, why not? Not bad at all - topped up 4 tyres to 32psi out of the box. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005855268383.h...
I've had one of one of these for a few years now: https://www.vonhaus.com/vh_en/12v-tyre-inflator Best inflator I've used by far. So much so family borrows it to top up their tyres when they come to visit! £35 is a good price. I use this to top up the hot water pressure vessel to 3 bars with no issues.

VonHaus are good to deal with, I have have bought some electric oil-filled heaters from them. I personally use fuel station ones, and top-up with a Joe Blow track (bicycle) pump. I do also have an old, twin barrel Halfords pump, that I have had for decades, lurking somewhereI've had one of one of these for a few years now: https://www.vonhaus.com/vh_en/12v-tyre-inflator Best inflator I've used by far.
