69 plate Fiesta Heater Problem
Discussion
Afternoon, I have a 69 Reg Fiesta St-line. Only owned it for 18 months. For the last couple of weeks there’s been a whirring/clunking sound from where the heater is when the engine is turned off. It only happens when the heater has been on. The heater seems to be working fine, it heats up quick and switches from hot/cold with no problems.
I took it to Fords and they have said it’s faulty heater box air flap gears and the whole heater box needs to be replaced which will be a full dash removal, 6 -7 hours labour and will be just shy of £2k!!! Annoyingly the warranty ended in January. Fords have said as a goodwill they will knock a bit of the price as the car is still fairly new.
Has anybody had this before? Could it be fixed without the need for a whole new heater box or dash removal? Any advice appreciated as I don’t know much about cars and it seems like an awful lot of money when the heater works fine apart from the odd noise!
Thanks all

If the heater works fine & you don't perceive a problem & can live with the noise, then do so.
If not, the fix is highly likely to be a large job as the heater matrix & controls are pretty much the first things put in the cabin, so a lot needs to come out to get to them generally.
Having said that, if the car has only been main dealer serviced & being that new, personally, I would be onto Ford UK in the strongest possible terms and pushing for a full repair.

Oh wow I didn’t know about the blend door problem. Thanks. I’m not sure if the air is stuck - I think it seems to be working okay. The car does get steamed up really quickly even with the heater off which is annoying but I just thought that was normal…..
If it is the door blend actuator there are a few videos on youtubeshowing how to replace with minimum removal of the dashGassing Station | Home Mechanics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
