I've just realised if I want Private Jobs done by my mate he needs a decent scanner for my VW Passat B8 in return.
I'm looking at options available that do EPB, DPF, Battery (for me to do), any others I've missed?
Also, mate has a Benz so be good to have both VW and Benz covered.
Options im finding available;
1. Autel AP200 Bluetooth OBD2 - Looks like a new market option @ 50 Quid But I think an Ebay ad is lying when it says it does DPF
2. Autel MaxiPro going for 80-100 on ebay
3. Ancel 700
Anyone got any other options they know if for 100 odd quid?

I just bought one of these, as surprisingly, my usual Android based OBD scan app that works fine on my Ford refused to communicate with my Missus' 2005 VW Polo
Am not sure if it has all the functions you mention but I was just pleased to find that this Ancel VD500 would talk to it at all, having previously bought something cheaper that wouldn't.
Don't spend your money til you need to though. If it never goes wrong, it'll be £40 wasted.
(the cheapie one was a Can VC309 OBDII reader - no good in my case)

Have seen this one, I think it does EPB service mode for next time we do the brakes. We did it without over the weekend. He only had upto B7 Passat and it didnt work.Am not sure if it has all the functions you mention but I was just pleased to find that this Ancel VD500 would talk to it at all, having previously bought something cheaper that wouldn't.

You are right, only buy when needed!

You may struggle to get a do it all tool for £100.
I'd probably look at a used Autel on ebay, problem with them is they do charge for updates which are not cheap although you don't have to do them to still use the tool.
Have you looked into the mobile phone based ones?
Yes one on the original post list is a mobile one, trouble is its linked to the VIN I think and can't use on other cars (Mates motor and any PJ's he does).I'd probably look at a used Autel on ebay, problem with them is they do charge for updates which are not cheap although you don't have to do them to still use the tool.

I've put a cheeky bid on an Autel Maxipro so might get lucky, although I did notice that they need paid updates where as the Ancel ones are always free.
The other thing is my missus has a Kia, a completely different bleeding tool needed!
It always used to be VCDS for VW/Audi, however I've no idea whether it still is, but you could take a look;

I bought an icarsoft cr Pro to add to my other tools and it's been very good so far.
Think I've seen it down at £130, I paid £200 for it 2 years ago but it has free life updates.
I also have one of these, excellent tool and has proved money well spent having been used on a variety of cars over the last few years.Think I've seen it down at £130, I paid £200 for it 2 years ago but it has free life updates.

Obd11 is probably your best bet, for a vw as it will do everything for your be from a diagnostic and module unlock/coding pov,if that was something you wanted, there are tokens you buy for the app unlocks/does the coding required rather than vcds way of long coding in featuresI'm looking at options available that do EPB, DPF, Battery (for me to do), any others I've missed?

Pretty sure general diagnostic stuff is free but there is a subscription option if you need to do diagnosis of certain modules beyond the basic obd fault code reading.
There are a few versions, but the newer one should do what you want, might be worth watching a few YouTube videos/tutorials before deciding though
