It looks like I need an OBD2 reader to pin down which of the reversing sensors on a Mini is knackered. Of course this opens up tinkering possibilities with other cars smile

Bluetooth and app, or a self-contained unit? Recommendations, or warnings to avoid?

I absolutely don't want some whizzy bang workshop grade unit, but I suspect the very cheapest Amazon specials are a bit cheap.

I have a cheap bluetooth dongle which is good at confirming error codes but I haven't done much with it apart from turn off the management light when it came on. I think it boils down to which app you use (I use Torque (Lite))

It's actually OBD 11 not 2 but it doesn't matter smile

Cheap Amazon one ordered, torque downloaded, so let's see smile. Might help with the engine light the damnable Mini just threw up. Ah well, it's cheap and a pretty colour biggrin

It is 2, not 11. The II is 2 in Roman numerals.

I'm sure there was a thread a while ago where it was said that it's 11 not 2. I stand corrected though.

Confusingly, there is a product called OBD Eleven but as said it's 2 in Roman Numerals.

Slight thread hijack, but solar battery chargers, seen a couple to charge the battery through the OBDII/OBD11/OBD2 port - how on earth does that work?

Through the 12V power pin on the port.

Just to wrap this up, cheap dongle plus torque equals far too much information. Currently playing with live dials, and the immediate mpg is erm, informative on the Panamera.

I was under the impression most OBD readers didn’t read things like parking sensors.

That said, not sure what age your Mini is, but when my wife’s 2013 coupe sensors packed up, I had a poke around and the harness to the first sensor on the LHS of the car had rubbed in the chassis leg and broke the wire. Crimped it back together and it was sorted.

Will see when I get it back from its 02 sensor issue. Forums would suggest that a long squeak with no beeping means one or more than one of the warts is a bit broken, and I had hoped to avoid the digging around in greasy bits.

Cheapo Amazon Bluetooth unit is fine if all you want to do is check and clear codes. No good for monitoring what's going on from the sensors as the engine is running though, at least not with the one I had on a Subaru Outback.
