Turbo Recommendations?
Discussion
First of all, thanks for having me. I know I am a newbie here, but I am by no means inexperienced with vehicle modifications or forums in general.
This is a slightly oddball question. I have never needed to spec a turbo for any mods I have done and this is a first.
I am currently playing with a 1996 Transit fitted with the 2.5L diesel engine. For those of you who are not familiar with it, its an 8V cast iron unit with powers ranging from 70-115PS (low power without turbo, higher power with a K04 turbo, and intercooler on the 115PS version). It has a 4500rpm red line. The engine itself is very very tough.
A few of us (don't laugh) drag race these vans, and with standard parts and no intercooler I have got mine to 18.55 @ 71 accross the 1/4 mile. (I think I can get it to 18 or less).
The next stage really is a bigger turbo and bigger injectors. I am going to fabricate an equal length 4 in to 1 manifold, but I would appreciate some advice on a good turbo to go on the end. Bearing in mind the limitation on revs its got to spool up quickly and bring boost on as soon as practical. It would be good if it could run at 30ish PSI. I really want to use a standard factory turbo so it can be replaced easily if required.
At the moment I have a landcruiser CT12B sitting in the shed (watercooled too), and wondered if anyone could suggest something more appropriate?
Thanks!
