Hi, I work for an independent garage, things are not easy for I will talk a little more about my situation later on as I do not have much time.

Has any one that worked for an independent garage ever found their being put in the a situation where you had to hammer out the honey comb part of the catalytic converter.

(I have been told from college, that doing these sort things will lead to serious health problems in the future, and increased likelihood of any children I have in the future being born with serious defects.

Wear a mask, then use a 1mm cutting disc in an angle grinder to cut round the outside of the casing, remove the honeycomb matrix then tig the two halves back together, job done !

Buy yourself some masks similar to these and keep them in your box, try not to go for the cheaper type with no valves on them.
Lots of people don't care at a young age but if you value your health and all that.

I think you'll struggle to hammer out the core of a metal matrix cat!

If you remove the core intact it should be worth a few quid at a scrap metal merchant as it contains a fair bit of platinum.
