Nothing else really lasts any length of time tbh.
You could glue it back together with exhaust paste (get a cartridge from a motor factors not a tiny tin from halfrauds) but it will fail not long after.
What car is it on ? Exhausts are very cheap to replace if it isn't exotica, relatively easy for iy or find a local place that does a bit of cash work on Saturday mornings =)
I'd charge £30 cash to weld something like that for a mate, a bit more if it was a work job.

its an almera or something, cars a scrapper at next mot. just sounds like a tank so need something cheap to last the next few months.
was going to hack saw the flange bit off and slide a bit of pipe between the two broken bits and clamp it down.
will that work?
Yes, if the pipe is a nice snug fit and you use proper U shaped exhaust clamps and you have a good couple of inches overlap each end. You need to cut opposing slots in the pipe at each end so when you clamp it the pipe crushes down onto the existing exhaust.was going to hack saw the flange bit off and slide a bit of pipe between the two broken bits and clamp it down.

Use exhaust paste to help it seal, it also helps slide the pipe on if it a snug fit (clean the existing exhaust up with a bit of rough sand paper if it is really rusty.
I weld/replace as it does my head in trying to find a piece of pipe the right internal diameter, if it is just a bit too big it wont last that long as the exhaust moves about a lot.
