OBD Fault Code Reader for a Discovery 2
Discussion
Hi all, just a quick couple of questions!
I have a Disco 2 4.0L petrol that I run on gas which has a habit of throwing up Warning Lights, none stay on for long and TBH I am not that bothered by any of them. I'm thinking about getting a Code Reader in case a warning light decides to come on and stay on. Question is …….
Is this:

Better suited than something like this?:

You can exchange the second one for any cheap generic reader. I just picked a cheap one as an example! Is the first item ready worth the extra $$$$ or in reality are they not exactly the same thing, only one claiming to be JLR suited?

I can't comment on using them on a Disco, but I did buy a cheap as chips one similar to your second link. I didn't hold out much hope, but it worked fine diagnosing an engine warning light on a Merc A Class. Gave the fault code with a description and let me reset the engine light once I'd fixed the problem. Even had a back lit display so I could read it in the footwell.
As those cheap ones are so little money I would say give it a try. If you are getting warning lights a lot you'll have plenty of opportunity to test it out!

I bought an iCarsoft i990 quite recently, which is the Honda specific model. I bought it to erase an EPAS fault code which the specification says it can do, and the function is available in the menu, but in practice it simply doesn't work. The engine fault code reading/erasing and live data monitoring all seem to work correctly, but then again that all works correctly on my (much cheaper) Launch CReader which I've had for quite a few years.
