Looking to cover the top of my workbench with a nice piece of stainless. What would be the sort of thickness I should go for ?

I Was thinking 1.2mm would probably be sufficient. Only working on car parts, so nothing massively heavy.

TIA

How do you intend to fix it down? When I topped my last work bench I did so in 3mm steel as it was what the local trailer makers had in cheap. But then did bend it to suit for me so I didn't have any fixings on the upper surface, just screws down the sides.

Why not use galvanised steel? I made some large/long benches using Dexion with 2 x 1" MDF tops, then stuck down 1.5mm galvanised with spray adhesive. They get hard use with engine builds, etc. and still look great after 3 years. I have a big steel bench for heavy stuff, but am happy with this and would highly recommend it as a low cost solution.
