New socket set...
Discussion
So some fking scumbag stole my socket set amongst a few other bits and pieces tools wise the other evening.
Contents insurance have agreed to pay out, so I am off tool shopping at the weekend as I need to crack on with the car!
Is the Halfords Pro range still up to snuff? The set that was stolen was a Halfords Pro set but was a few years old and was great, had the 6 point sockets on the 1/2 drive which I have always preferred. However seems the new sets are 12 point on the 1/2 drive now which I am not so keen on but it does look to come with some 6 point impact sockets too so could be ok I guess.
Thoughts? Needs to be something I can go and pick up tomorrow really as I need to get on with the car. What else are we recommending these days?

I too have always preferred 6 point sockets, although as you apply the torque the drive is put onto the ends of the flats around the corners, so as long as the sockets are "flank drive" rather than sharp pointed in the corners the difference between 6 & 12 point is negated.
I think the halfrauds pro fall into this category, so you should have no issues at all.

Sealey do a decent set of sockets in 6pt on a rail. http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Sealey%20Ak2697...
They're good quality. I prefer them to the Halfords ones. Not a massive fan of 12 point sockets these days (and I've got a load of 12 point sockets!).

Does anyone know any companies that make 6 point spanners? I saw a set in a garage somewhere years ago and can't remember the manufacturer.
