1999 mk3 golf deisel alternator adjustment.
Discussion
Evening all,
The adjustment on the above is by a tension spring underneath the alternator.
The pivot bolt snapped recently and I replaced it with a suitable bolt, this screws into a steel bush that is in the alternator casing fixing point.I have changed the belt, but it is screaming. On inspection, the alternator pulley wheel is slightly out of line with the other pulley wheels. The bearings in the alternator are ok,no slop or play. The steel insert bush in the alternator, which is threaded to take the pivot bolt seems to be not completely inserted.I think maybe this is allowing the alternator to be pulled out of line.
I am wondering if the pivot bolt is designed to pull the bush into the alternator casing, and the one I have used is not suitable.
This setup was not continued on the slightly later models,so any info is hard to find.
Anybody had the same problem?
