Discussion
Now, I have done some sleuthing and after contacting ASDA House [no less] was informed that ASDA engine oils are supplied by
https://www.tetrosyl.com/brands
under ASDA own brand packaging....
picked up 5l of 5w-40 synth with the following recommendations
API SN/CF
ACEA C3
MB 229.31/229.51
BMW LL 04
Ford M2C-917-A
VW 502.00//505.01(PD)
Porsche A40
reduced from £20 to £14.
I believe sainsburys own brand is supplied from Germany [poss castrol?] but being sainsburys 'natch has a premium quota applied
Mo.

At the moment most of the motor factors can beat that price for the same spec oil but they might not give you that price unless you ask for the cheaper alternative. At the moment Comma are doing two oil ranges with the same names and specs but the cheaper range is halve to a third of the price of the dearer, The explanation I was given is that with the cheaper line that is the maximum spec but minimum with the dearer range.
Shell Helix Ultra is pretty cheap at ECP right now:

20 quid for 5 litres, and perhaps 10% more if you have a working discount code.
