Hi guy's all my previous cars have been specialist enough that I get any spare from a forum where sellers happily know everything and can tell you what you need...

The gf's qashqai needs a new part and I've no idea a) Where to find the part number and 2) where to order it from for a sensible price.

The piece in question is the lower torque rod arm for the engine of a 2007 1.6 petrol qashqai. I've got the workshop manual but helpfully it doesn't seem to list parts. frown

Any thoughts or help greatly appreciated!

It is quite simple, get on the phone/web & try different places.

Local auto factors (Andrew Page, Halfords etc)

National web retailers (Eurocarparts, carparts4less etc)

They all want the Nissan part number so I guess I have to call Nissan although presumably they just tell me they can order me one for a silly amount of money and don't disclose the part number? Have to say it's all a bit dark ages!

Surprised as I'm trade & I've never been asked for a manufacturers part number in any of the local motor factors - they go off the reg. Worked in a factors myself in the 70s & we went off the make, model, year & engine type as we didn't have computers then, just big books from the various parts manufacturers!
It MAY be that the part is dealer only - or you might find a used one on ebay or a breakers.
If you want the Nissan part number best to speak to a local franchised dealer's parts dept who will enter the reg or VIN into their computer - same as the factor!

Deciphering your description to mean an engine steady, you will probably find the part is Nissan only.

Nissan will give you the part number if you ask them.

Luckily one of the guys who gets me parts for my 350z has been able to help out. It may well be known as an engine steady but the workshop manual calls it a "rear torque rod" The fact that description seems to meet blank faces followed by a "oh you mean a...." seems to imply the manual is a bit useless!

The manual will probably be translated from Japanese, they do have strange names for things like the engine bay is called and engine room for example.

Item 17 ~ Rod torque, 11360JD000

Highly unlikely to be available anywhere but your local Nissan dealer.

edit Well, maybe that's not quite the case http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NM-J10LH-LEFT-ENGINE-MOU...

Technically a torque rod is the correct description, it stops the engines torque from twisting the engine rather than the driveshafts/propshaft.

Engine steady is a bit like using shock absorber to describe a suspension dampner wink
