Hi,

I recently purchased a 2007 vectra to use as a daily. It's a 1.8 vvt.

The issue I have noticed is that the speedometer comes to rest at an indicated 5mph (when the car is at a standstill with the engine running, and also when the engine is off) and the rev counter rests at an indicated 250rpm (when the engine is off). Both needles look to be resting 5mm higher than they should be with the engine off (5mm just happens to be 250rpm for the rev counter and 5mph for the speedo).

Last night I disconnected the battery to reset the ecu but this made no difference. I noticed with the battery disconnected both needles stayed where they were.

Has anyone encountered this before? Do you have any ideas what could be causing this? They seem to need re-calibrated but I don't know what this involves.

Are you sure that isn't just where they sit normally ?

Without looking at another one it is a bit hard to confirm but the fact both needles sit above zero in the same position would suggest it is just how it is smile

Possibly a previous owner has had the instruments apart and not put the needles back on in the correct place. Saying that, most modern instruments use stepper motors and find the zero position automatically when they are powered up.

Hi Jimmy,

yes I have looked at others and they sit at 0.

mr2mike - if they have been taken apart and reassembled incorrectly, then I'm assuming someone could rotate the needles to fix this?

Out of curiosity, do all the warning lights for and, aorbag, engone etc work properly ?

You can pull the needles off to reseat them but it is a bit dodgy doing it, my boss knackered a set of gauges on a different marque doing it !

Yes everything else works fine!

It doesn't really bother me - I was just worried it might fail the MOT. I know the testers need to check the speedo.

MOT is coming up in a few weeks.

Check the speedo for what ?

Bit busy to check the manual atm but pretty sure it just needs to be there if fitted as standard, no test is performed on its function.
