I have a recurring airbag light on, after a diagnostic today the dealer said that the connectors have been bodged, the fault is off now, there are only 3 connectors with 2 wires each, im thinking "chop em out, get to Maplins and buy some connectors and shrink wrap"

the wires are flimsy, i assume theres no great current through them?

cheers

You mention there are only 3 connectors - Do you mean that the dealer stated that there are 3 damaged connectors and that all the other connectors in the Airbag circuit are OK?

Assuming that you mean 3 damaged plugs that have 2 terminals in each or 3 plugs all having at least 1 damaged terminal.................

You are playing with fire here if you dont keep the Airbag wiring, plugs and terminals standard

Although there is very little current draw through the Airbag circuits except the ones that trigger the explosives in the bags and those current draws are obviously not constant and can vary from one manufacturer to another - Should your vehicle be involved in an accident and the Airbags fail to operate correctly and consequently a person is injured, the vehicle Insurance company could point blame in the direction of whoever messed about with the Airbag wiring or simply prove to be very difficult with a claim settlement

I am as sure as I can be that all the Airbag circuit terminals are gold plated for good conductivity and no corrosion

Dont mess about here
Visit a reputable engineer for a proper repair

I hope this helps

I had previously parted the connectors twice, the last time spraying electrical contact cleaner in them, this did not take the airbag light off, that required a trip (80 mile round trip) to a dealer who took 10 minutes to reset the light, it has stayed off since 29th Dec, and more importantly while i got it through its MOT and taxi test....phew

In fairness the connectors are gold plated to avoid corrosion only - or at least as far as I am aware.
As a note of caution, if you are insistent on playing with airbag wiring, make sure your battery is disconnected before having a play. Some people recommend 30 mins before, especially on the older systems
