EEC/ECU home tuning ??
Discussion
This is a new thing for me so please be kind lol.
This has only got me interested as i am rebuilding a old kit car and have just fitted a 2.9i v6 cologne into it, now on fitting i found the ECU is fitted with a SuperChip, but thats all i know about it as there is no codes/number etc etc on it, just the name SuperChips. So on speaking to my bro he said he has heard of something along the lines of software that you can download to your own PC and then you can tune/fault find with it. What is the gain from it, is it as good a si hav ebeen told, or does it depend on what the chip is for, either power/performance/economy etc
So where do i start wit this, the engine is from a 1992 Ford Sierra 4x4 2.9i V6.
any advice please guys n gals

Probably beneficial to speak to someone at superchips who may know for sure what chip it is, they probably didnt do many back in the day so identifying may be easy.
May be just a driveability chip as they called it, smooths out any flat spots and improves throttle response.
Fitted one of theirs to a 1992 astra gsi and it made feck all difference!

I called SuperChips, should of done that in the first place lol, well a helpfull chap told me all about it while battering my head with info lol. its a chip that will give around 5-10% more power, so 7-15 bhp , run richer and more responsive. Best thing to do is get it running and try it with the chip then remove and see if its any benefit to me, he did say i was very lucky to find one fitted to the car aswell. I also so asked about the home tuning kit, he did say that its not worth it trying to sort it as i am running standard ECU but i go go with an after ECU then i will be able to tweak all and set up, but that will cost £000 by time i have finished, so not worth it to me, he advised just run standard as it is and see what the chip does for me.
He went in to a lot about it from when ford first went into helping set them up with the standard ECU but a lot went over my head lol. Still nothing lost and can only gain from it.

Zeusf i will sort some now for you kida, nowt great but will be fun when done, track or road
I am not bothered about repraming anyhting, was interested in what chip it was and what it did, so as said w will see soon enough.
The project is a Dutton Melos, 1986 jobby, was running a 2.0l pinto and i had it ready for its MOT after it waa stood for over 10 years in a lock up/garage. i had it out down the road with the pinto and that was fun, in the wet, well spins in 3rd on 195/13, so i wnat to keep them for wet weather, as will not give much welly, but for the dry, and maybe a track day i am widening the track to get 8x15 rear and 7x15 front hope this will get the power down a bit better, traction is everything with these cars i reckon and no other way to get power dwon as old school set up. So the 2.9i cologne is in and just want to get the exhaust made now and a few gaskets and i will fire it up before i do much else, just to see how the engine is, mite even take the heads off for an inspection.
so lots to but its good for the sanity )
That was when i near finished it for the MOT, made a new carbon fibre dash, bits of new wiring, new brake parts etc etcc, just fiddle bits nothing big. It did have a good roof and the rag top makes it dam hard to get in and out of when you got a bad knee and elbow, so a new hardtop was in order, but in the form of a gullwing/T top type. if your interested how i made it to this stage i will post pics up if you are interested, the roofs not got past this stage yet though as i ran outs cash as i have on all the project. so now just doing the bits that dont really cost like the new wishbones and TCA to widen the front track.
