Metrinch - Got to love 'em!
Discussion
My father bought me a set of Metrinch sockets about 30 years ago and they've served me extremely well over the years, with their ability to deal with AF and Metric bolts and driving on the flats, so removing those horrible rounded off bolts too.
I'm in the process of trying to recommission my Marcos which has been off the road for 10 (yes TEN!) years and the water pump was seized.
If you know much about Essex V6s you'll know the water pump bolts onto the front of the block, but one of the bolts is trapped under the pulley (when you buy a new pump, this bolt is already fitted).
Of course, this makes it a nightmare to get at, with my trusty sockets unable to fit and ring spanners just not able to get a grip on the awkward to reach bolt.
I was about to give up and ask a garage to do the work (and incur a three figure bill no doubt) when I found a set of Metrinch combination spanners on RS-Components' website (of all places) for under £40.
Figuring they'd be worth having anyway, I ordered them and they arrived yesterday.
Within about 20 minutes I had the water pump off!
There's no way I could have achieved this otherwise, so a quick plug for these excellent tools!
