Hi, the exhaust on my 1996 Mazda MX-5 1.6 NA has corroded and fallen off, so I need to replace it. I want to keep the car as original as possible, but I would also like to introduce a little more power. This perhaps means adding a supercharger? So, could anyone recommend the ideal exhaust system for such an upgrade, and maybe a good parts seller?

A stock exhaust won't really rob much power from the usual supercharged setups. If you're after a bit more noise then an aftermarket cat back from the usual suspects (MX5parts, ILMotorsports, Cobalt, Moss, Larini - if they still do them), are all perfectly fine for supercharged MX5's.

A stock exhaust is fine with a supercharger. It's pretty free-flowing as it is, so you won't see any problems. I've kept mine stock apart from the back box where I've got a MX5Parts stainless twin pipe exhaust, but that's purely for aesthetic reasons.

Ok, that's great. On another note, how much should I expect to pay for a supercharger?! smile

I paid £250 for mine on ebay. I've got a full breakdown of the costs and installation as I'm doing it here...

Just the charger, or a kit to fit it? you can pick up a used M45 from ebay from £200up,

Everything else costs more, new kits are getting harder to come by, but even if you DIY don't expect any change from £1500.

Don't forget there's much more to it thatn just plonking a spupercharger next to the motor and forcing more air in. The stock ECU is utterly useless in this regard, so you need to source some form of replacement/piggyback, or if you're really a way of tricking the car into adding more fuel to complement the extra air.
