I've been having intermitant starting issues on cold or damp days but not every time. The fully charged Odyssey 680 whizzes the engine round fine but on these odd occasions there's no sign of fuel or sparking. So I'm assuming the ECU needs well over 12v to function and perhaps the geared starter is draing too much away (she starts regularly in the shed every two weeks or so but after sitting on the trailer overnight , doesn't want to know)
Assuming I'm right and it's a '' minimum power to ecu '' under cranking issue , I've bought a SEALEY RS102 jump starter which is supposed to have 600 cold cranking amps. Anyone used this bit of kit with + or - results ?
Mine hasn't arrived yet plus needs charging first.

Haven't seen/used that one but I did buy a jump starter from Aldi the other day for £40 (reduced from £50) which seems pretty sturdy for the money.

I was tempted by similar priced jumpers but have been warned against them as inadequate , especially if the engine is very high compression as mine is , plus has a geared starter drawing lots of current. The SEALEY RS102 cost me £149 reduced from over £200 ! If you arrive at the track , battery fully charged and spins over but it doesn't fire up just before you need to be in the pitlane ---------------- ugh !!!

To be honest I'll probably use the compressor/12v sockets/lights more than the jump starter! Hope it does get me going if need be though.

What you do on here then? I have a jump starter for the Phoenix, cheap horrible one 50 pounds from Makro, and Makro closed down here 5 years ago, still works great and you know the power and CR I'm running i'm sure a seally one will be Ok for you.

Ah ! didn't recognise your forum name . This problem with mine has been an intermitant one , I can go to 3/4 sprints without issues then one day it'll spin the engine fast no problem but have no fuel/spark delivered. If the Dunnell race ECU doesn't get it's 12.4volts while the geared starter is draining the fully charged Odyssey 680 then it just wont start ---- bloody annoying after you've driven over 100 miles to the event. At Goodwood where the waiting in line can be very long and the engine gets too hot so turned off before the next move up ---- this is often a problem. However my last December visit to Goodwood resulted in me not getting it on track at all so this shook me into doing something.Took the Alfa round though , just to vent my frustration.
Last week at Abingdon I connected the Sealey before even trying the starter , so it started immediately so my battery wasn't drained .After running on track it then stared on it's own no prob's throughout the day. Next move will be fitting an Anderson plug & handle so's I don't have to get out of the car and open the bonnet while sitting in the line of cars.
