I've been putting together an app for monitoring canbus messages. My ELM327 adapter works fine for HS-CAN however my car also has an MS-CAN bus and i'd like to monitor this now.

I can modify the pinout on my ELM327 to allow this, e.g. http://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/elmconfig-enable-for...

I can buy an ST1110 / ST1170 based adapter (uses the same AT-commands approach as the ELM interface). The only downside is the price, £85+

I've just found "op-com" interfaces exist (aftermarket alternative to GM's TECH2). Chinese clones are as cheap as the ELM clones. It appears to be some kind of CAN capable adapter with multiplexing of HS-CAN, MS-CAN among others.

I can't find any docs or existing source code for talking to these. Any possible leads?

Contacted the manufacturer but perhaps understandably they'd rather not divulge. I'm guessing this is a dead end. I'm still tempted to order one and see if i can make sense of it though. I can log the usb traffic easily enough but i'd need a car that the opcom software will speak over ms-can to and that, i don't have!

Hello Craig,

Our OP-COM diagnostic tool is intended for use on OPEL / VAUXHALL cars.

Also, for the interface, we do not give out any communication
documentation, as this is not belongs to the public.

All the bests,

Steve

Thank you for your response Steve.

All the best,

Craig

Although there are many knock offs of it, OP-COM is the genuine thing, it's just that it is named VAX-COM in the u/k.

Actually you're correct. I'm just used to op-com being the knock off versions on ebay.

THis page: http://www.op-com.hu/OP-COM.aspx
says it will current models and is 349 euros, which is a bit more reasonable!

I've ordered one of the cheap clone interfaces. If the internals are the same as this one

Then it should be possible to figure something out. I see relays, a relay controller, a mux and the PIC. There's an FTDI on the other side too.

Would be cool to have one interface that does everything like this. My other idea was one of the cheap FPGA dev boards and load the appropriate bitstream for whatever interface we need so if this works it'd be a lot less work.

Not sure what you are trying to do? Are you attempting to view the digital signal, or are you trying to decode the signal to understand what it means?
