Good Evening,

I have just picked up a 2003 Audi a4 1.8t. The car has an electrical fault. There is no dash lights etc. working on the car no interior lights nothing car is completely dead. I have checked all the fuses and they are all fine.

tonight I was doing some testing with my test light and found that when I connect the test light between the negative terminal on the battery and the engine it lights up. So I'm guessing a short some where is this correct?

cheers

That sound like the opposite of a short; more like really bad connection between battery negative and the rest of the car body/engine.
If the cable connections on that terminal seem tight and clean my next suspect would be a loose or rusted connection from it to the body. Follow a fairly short, thick, black cable to a bolt. Probably on the bulkhead.

your completely correct. Just went out and checked the main earth cable from the battery and it fired back into life. Cheers for the info.
