Hi, I wonder if anyone can confirm my diagnosis.

My car (Saab 9-5 aero) has recently had a soft clutch pedal and a very low bite point on start up and over the first few miles. As the car warms up, the pedal firms up and the bite point returns to the normal level. There have been no clutch disengagement problems - the car is changing gear just fine.

So, my diagnosis is a failing slave cylinder - a pain because it is a concentric cylinder inside the bell housing, so 'll have to take the gearbox off to check it. Oddly though I don't seem to be losing any fluid.

Is my diagnosis likely to be right, or could there be any other causes?

Thanks in advance, 6fire.

Worth trying to bleed it first I would have thought before diving into a clutch change. Then I'd try changing the master cylinder, assuming that's more accessible than the slave.

I had exactly the same symptoms on my Freelander btw - a new master cylinder did the job.

Good luck!
