Hi, I have an older digital Gunson's multi-test (this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gunsons-Multitest-Digita... , but have misplaced the instructions and an Internet trawl hasn't produced any results. So hoping someone on here might be able to help.

I have no problems using the meter, except it has been a long time since i have used the ammeter side and have forgotten how this should be connected. I seem to recall there was an additional metal bar that might need to be used?

I need to use it to try to diagnose a parasitic battery drain. So if any one can help with providing the instructions relating to the ammeter side of things I would be very gratefully

Thanks

If you can post a close up picture of the dial and the connections somebody will be able to help. I have no experience with that particular meter but I would be surprised if it's much different to others.

I have a similar unit but a 'Multimeter' version, and I believe there is a 10A fuse in the back to protect the amp circuit. One option would be to run a 5W bulb in series when doing the initial test, as this would limit the current even if there was a dead short, and you should be able to calculate the current if the bulb was taken out of the circuit.

First of all check with your local dealer that your vehicle will run ok if the battery is disconnected and reconnected
If all is well - Disconnect the battery earth lead and reconnect it with a 21Watt light bulb in series with the lead and battery post, if the bulb doesnt glow or glows dim you are ok to test for a battery drain with your meter and no metal shunt
An above poster mentioned removing fuses one by one until you find the fault "if only life was that easy" - Yes do remove fuses to begin with as this method can save much time, if having removed all the fuses and you still have a drain showing on your meter you will need to start disconnecting components
Feel free to post up the value of the battery drain as I may be able to point you in the right direction
