Not sure if this is the right forum, but I wondered if anyone knows whether the inserts in Compomotive wheels can be changed, and who could do it ? I have a set of MO1780 as track day wheels but they have Group A inserts. I bought some adaptors but they don't seem compatible. The taper isn't right or something and they don't 'bed' properly. Is it possible to change the inserts for normal ones so I can use standard wheel nuts ? Where can I get them ?

I had a contact at Compomotive but unfortunately the email is now bouncing. I assume this is connected to the news about going into administration

Thanks

Are you talking about the spigot rings?

Most wheels with them come out relatively easily

For example:

If they do come out, you need to change them for the correct size for your car.

What car do you have?

Thanks for the response. No, it's not the spigot ring. The problem is the wheels are for Ford Group A fitment but I have standard wheel studs. There are adaptors but they don't seem to 'bed' properly. I was wondering whether I could swap the inserts ( if there are inserts ) so that I could use standard wheel nuts. Pictures below may show it more clearly

In this last one you can see the edges of the nut are interfering with the seat in the wheel. It's as if the tapers are wrong.

I finally got a response from Compomotive. It was a pretty terse 'Sorry can't help'. Understandable given their current position I guess.

My first thought is change your studs and nuts to suit, second would be consult a wheel specialist like Ian Jemison in York.

Have a look at http://www.mistertee.co.uk/ maybe Maurice can help you, if you don't see the right thing on the website might be worth getting in contact with him anyway.

The lug nut you have has the wrong seat for your wheel. Almost all aftermarket wheels use a tapered seat (yours appears to as well), the pictured lug nut appears to be a mag lug and needs a washer to be complete (I'm betting it was designed for a old chevy). 12mmx1.5 is really common, you should be able to find a lug nut rather easily. I don't live in Europe (I haven't lived there either) so I don't know where the best place to buy from is. If all else fails, many cars use the same threads and have a tapered seat. Anywhere that sells rims should be able to sell you the lug nuts you need or tell you where to buy them. I hope this helps.

The ring is called a hub ring. You don't need it, and I believe they are a waste of money.
The wheel is centered 2 ways:
hubcentric - this is where the hub on the wheel centers on the hub on the vehicle
lugcentric - this is where the wheel centers on the wheel studs

does that make sense?
most setups (including yours as long as you have tapered lugs) don't need hub rings. In fact, most hub rings are made out of plastic and don't really do much. I work at a tyre store and we get a mix of vehicles some with and some without hub rings on their aftermarket rims. The ones without never complain, and I used to have a car without hub rings on aftermarket wheels and had no problems. If you don't have them, or they don't fit the hub on your vehicle, don't worry about getting new ones.

edit:

you should also make sure that the lug nuts you get fit your vehicle (thread wise), you haven't been very specific about your application so far.
