I'm curious about how everyone keeps track of the maintenance they do on their cars.

Personally, I use an Excel spreadsheet, keeping track of mileage, date and part cost of each intervention.

I've also been looking around for a simple web/app solution I could use, but can't seem to find one. Any recommendations?

I just write the date + mileage on the part invoices and stick them in a folder. Mine gets an oil change every 6 months, once in the spring before we go on holiday for easter and once in September before the MOT, so pretty easy to keep track of things. You get to a point on high mileage cars when the service schedule becomes irrelevant and it's just a case of keeping an eye on things and doing odd jobs as and when they need doing.

An app sounds like a good idea but most cars will outlive the phone/tablet the app is stored on. . .

I just write the mileage etc and keep the invoices.

However if you buy a dodgy Autodata Disc you can print service sheets off it i think.

A folder for all receipts (of course) & a word document with the date, what was done &/or what parts replaced (saved to disc so it can move with the car if/when I sell them). This is the same for all 4 cars.

I tend to fill the manufacturers service book in, writing any info that's relevant in the gap left for the stamp.

I then reference receipts here with a numbering system (the mileage!!)

Scribble something down in the service book. Dont bother keeping receipts or anything like that. The fact that work has been done is enough for me. Even the service book is more for my information than any other reason.

Sticky labels somewhere dry and safe in the engine compartment. Basic details like :~

"Oil and filter change with 10-40 semi-synthetic 10th July 2012 @ 58,000 miles.

I look after the DIYer servicing of most of the cars in my family. At least six cars and those labels are a great help when checking what car needs what doing to it. Mostly MGs and Rovers and one Citroen.

When I was doing my own cars, it was easy. Oil and filter every 5k at the 5k point (25, 30, 35 etc) and a cam belt every 50k.
Now I do cars for loads of people, I do receipts, and put a sticky label under the bonnet, with cambelt and oil change dates.
